Process

If you are wondering about how I make my artwork, here is a 6 step rundown of what I do!

– First, I typically sketch out a concept or the whole drawing on paper or immediately jump into doing the sketching digitally. I usually leave out a bunch of details or shading at this point, and I don’t use any colour. For all my paper sketches, I only use pencils.

– After I feel that I’m happy with my sketch, I go to the app Medibang (which I use for my digital art, I highly recommend this program [I also used to use Procreate, which is also another great app]), and start to do an outline. For outlines, I like using the pen brush size 7px – 16px depending on how detailed I want the outline to be. 7px makes the outlines look very thin and wispy, and whenever I use 16px brush, I typically colour over it, and don’t leave it as a black outline.

– Once the outline is finished, I occasionally like going back and weighting the lineart to make parts look thicker or thinner and make the piece have more depth

– When I’m finished with weighting the lineart, I then move on to filling in the outlines with a basic idea of the colours I want to use, mainly to get a sense of how I want the drawing to feel. A lot of the times I change these constantly before I get to shading them. Also, sometimes I add in a prototype background, usually monochrome, but maybe with a gradient. This helps me choose a lot of the colours.

– Then, I texture all of the colour blocks I added to make the drawing feel more vibrant and interesting. I like using blurs, watercolor brushes, and airbrush for certain details, but sometimes I won’t blend any of the textures.

– After that, I start working on background details, lighting effects, and tweaking certain colors, and the drawing is pretty much done. I make minor adjustments, add in any extra effects, and place my watermark somewhere in the drawing (usually in the bottom left corner).

Below I’ve attached a piece of artwork I made to give an example of my process. I hope that this explanation may have helped in some way!
